Dashing Errol Flynn duels his way across medieval England in this lavish, witty, fast paced retelling of the Robin Hood legend. The Adventures of Robin Hood abounds with vivid scenes of derring-do Robin battling a horde of Norman knights, narrowly escaping the hangman's noose, splitting his rival's arrow to win a suspenseful archery contest, or the Merry Men leaping from tree swords ready to liberate a tax shipment. The best action scene is saved for last: the dazzling climactic duel to the death between Robin and Sir Guy of Gisbourne (Basil Rathbone). Flynn (who does many of his own stunts) is at his athletic, romantic best in a role originally intended for James Cagney. Olivia de Havilland (as Maid Marian), consummate screen villains Rathbone and Claude Rains and a boisterous who's who of character actors as the Merry Men co-star. Welcome to Sherwood.
