State attorney Monique Lamont, entrusts Win with a case that lies 20 years in the past. The investigator is supposed to re-open the case of a brutal and unsolved murder of an old woman using cutting-edge DNA technology. If her office solves the case, it ought to make them all look good.
Another crime is committed Lamont is assaulted at her home. The incidents seem to be connected and the more Win learns about the past case, the more he understands the connections to the attempted murder of Lamont.
Sparks fly, traps spring, twists abound but Win manages to solve the old case. However the current events threaten his life and that of his colleague until the end. The suspect comes so close to Win and Lamont that the cat-and-mouse game is only solved at the very end of the story but with a terrible loss.
