Though Alice in Chains has been on hold since the latter part of the '90s due to drug relapses and band arguments, these grunge founders have managed to stay on people's minds. Since riding in on the wave that Kurt Cobain and Nirvana made with the introduction of grunge, Alice in Chains has amassed a following that is at times baffling. Having only produced three full length albums, it hardly seems necessary for the band to have a boxed set released, but apparently the public wanted something new from Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell. Not having any new material to offer, it seems the folks at Columbia Music and Video put their heads together and decided to let Alice in Chains ride another wave, the box set wave. Video Bank is meant to accompany the audio release of Music Bank. While Music Bank is a compilation of most of the songs already released by Alice in Chains in alternate mixes and demo versions, Video Bank is a collection of all the band's videos and a short ten minute compilation of home video shot by the band. Though many people may not be impressed with a three CD set of songs they already own, they just may be impressed by the videos contained on Video Bank. This compilation includes the videos for Man in a Box, Heaven Beside You, and Them Bones, all of which saw heavy rotation on MTV. It also includes hidden gems like two separate video versions of The Rooster and We Die Young, as well as lesser seen videos for hits such as Angry Chair and Down in a Hole. If you are an Alice in Chains fan and are looking for something fresh from the band, then Video Bank is a worthy investment.
