In the third series of Rake, Cleaver Greene (Richard Roxburgh) languishes in prison surrounded by enemies but also a few friends. His cell-mate Mal (Dan Wyllie), a convicted murderer, fancies himself as much more than a friend. Cleaver needs both cunning and luck to avoid assaults, protect his friends and find a way to outwit those who put him away.

But Cleaver might not be so keen on freedom if he knew what awaited him in the outside world. Wendy (Caroline Brazier) has plans to finally move on and start a new life with Roger (Martin Sacks). Scarlet (Danielle Cormack) has taken over Cleaver's clients and his assistant, Nicole (Kate Box), despite the fact that she is the mother of Barney's (Russell Dykstra) love child. Scarlet and David (Matt Day) are torn between their love and the duties that make their affair impossible, while Missy's (Adrienne Pickering) biopic is about to hit the cinema screens with a surprise casting choice.
