The Dutch violinist Andre Rieu and the Johann Strauss Orchestra perform a number of musical hits. Andre Rieu is one of the best-selling modern classical artists, with over 20 million sales worldwide and a string of successful tours behind him. Rieu set up the Johann Strauss Orchestra in 1987 with the dual aim of promoting the waltz music he loves while introducing a wider audience to the pleasures of classical music. Here Andre Rieu and his orchestra turn their attention to memorable songs from stage musicals, providing their own take on a number of popular tunes.
Through 18 tracks Andre Rieu parts the curtains and brings the Musical stage to your home. There are songs from a wide range of Musicals on this album, each carefully chosen.
There's the dramatic story of the Phantom of the Opera, or Mary Poppins who can do superhuman things. Or just love stories of 'the man in the street' if you will, with the story of My Fair Lady, which really, could belong to any time and place. There's music that tears at our very heartstrings - 'Don't cry for me Argentina' from Evita. And there's music that brings a love story set against the imposing backdrop of the Austrian Alps right into our homes and hearts: Australia's best-loved musical, The Sound of Music. There is much amid the twenty beautiful tracks on this album to love. Their magic never ceases to weave the most entrancing of spells.
